Alexandre Song Billong (born
September 9,
1987)
is a
Cameroonian
footballer currently playing for
Arsenal. He can play in either
defence or
midfield.
The nephew of former
Liverpool player
Rigobert Song, he joined the
Bastia youth team in 2003/04 and became a part of the first-team the
following season with 34 appearances. He impressed Arsenal manager
Arsène Wenger as a trialist during Arsenal's pre-season training camp in
Austria. Song
is under contract with the Corsican club until 2008, but Arsenal secured his
services on loan for the
2005/06 season. The two clubs negotiated a £2.75 million fee should the
north London club decide to sign him to a permanent deal at the end of the
season.
Song made his Premiership debut during Arsenal's 2-0 win against
Everton
F.C. on
September 21, 2005
as a substitute.
